So how many of you can recall the events that occurred over the past year?
We started in January with a busking session in the Howard Centre.
February saw the first tea dance of the year, held in Hatfield at the William Cecil hall, 70+ people attended the Hearts & Flowers theme.
March saw the launch of our newsletter “Robins Nest”. The tone was set with the first edition, where the customers are treated with respect, but any of the crew are open to abuse and ridicule. (Ed:- tee-hee).
In April we had 100+ at the “Swizzles and Nibbles” black and white theme tea dance. Also the first CEROC championships took place in London at the Leicester Square Empire.
In May we had the launch of the Website.
Flaming June (Ed:- that’s a month - not a woman) saw a new venue for our tea dance. We switched to the Knebworth Village Hall where 100+ people turned up to our “D-Day” theme. This was a lovely hall but unfortunately we couldn’t have the windows open so it got a bit hot!! Also in June we demonstrated our skills at Brookmans Park School for their village day.
In July, in extreme heat, we had another busking session outside the Howard centre and a move to the Bishops Hatfield School for the “Surf and Swirl” tea dance. This is now our established venue for these events.
August was a bad month with the loss of our regular Tuesday night venue, due to the sudden closure of The Forum for safety reasons. We used Roller City in Welwyn Garden City temporarily but we could not get the venue permanently. However, it was not all bad news, as the infamous and world renowned article “Sunscreen or Dance shoes” was launched!
In September we moved into our present venue at Hutton Hall. The tea dance theme continued, with one of our most successful, the “Back to school” tea dance.
This trend continued in October with the “Heroes and Villains” tea dance.
A tragedy occurred in early November (see page 6) as we suffered the loss of our much loved taxi dancer Malcolm Kearney The month ended with the successful & highly amusing “Double trouble” workshop.
The year culminated in December with 120+ attendees at the “Sparkle” tea dance. And this was followed with a very successful “White theme” Christmas party, which rounded off the year quite nicely.
Your Hatfield crew thank you for your support during 1999, & look forward to seeing you at our events during 2000.
