The mini-busk season is upon us again

The time of the year has once again made people’s thoughts turn to their summer holidays. And what do you do on your summer holidays? No I don’t mean eating drinking and sleeping. Most people take their cameras and tend to take all sorts of photos, of which 99% are total rubbish! But the odd 1% may be the picture that could catapult your way to stardom & world fame by having it published in “Robin’s Nest“.

So how do I go about achieving all this fame and fortune?” I hear you ask. Well all you have to do is get a member of the public, or a member of your party, to snap you doing a posed move. It can be a Catapult in Columbia, a Wurlitzer in the West Indies, a First Move in France or an Octopus in Oldham. Just send in your photo &, providing the quality is printable, we will publish it, and may also award an “admit one” for any lucky entrants.

The photo above illustrates what we are trying to achieve. It shows two of our intrepid taxi dancers, Pat & Gina Nolan, posing for a “First move” in an exotic Caribbean location. Note the happy smiling faces, (the sign of a good taxi dancer), the perfect stance, the outside feet swept back and of course the larey costumes that are the trade mark of all our tea dances. Can you better this? If so let us have you snaps for inclusion in future editions of Robin‘s Nest.

Any photographs will be returned to their original owner, unless they are from the crew ,when they may be kept by the editor and used in evidence at any future trial. (Ed:- tee-hee!)

The Malcolm Kearney charity appeal

As published in our last issue, the collections, the charity dance and the raffle have all been a great success and Mike and Tracie managed to raise £2,000.

This has been sent to the Royal Marsden Hospital.

The raffle alone raised over £300 and finally culminated in the draw, held at our last tea dance, the one with the “letter T” theme. Darren, from JL Promotions who run the Party Weekenders, made the journey up from Essex to make the draw for us.

The first name out of the hat was that of Peter Josland, who lives in Welwyn Garden City. Peter actually dances in Hatfield and has not been dancing very long. Peter had the choice of a Party Weekender cabin for six people for November at Weymouth, or the weekend break to France travelling on Eurostar. He plumped for the Weymouth weekend.

The second prize-winner, who had to settle for the France trip, (Ed:-shame!) was Julie Hodgkinson from Luton. Julie, who is one of our demonstrators at Hatfield, must have looked absolutely gutted as she embarked onto the Eurostar for her trip! She has said that it was an absolutely brilliant weekend.

The final prize of 2 Ceroc dance championship tickets went to Bill Chapman from Hutton, which is near Brentwood in Essex. Bill can be seen strutting his stuff at the local venues in the area.

Once again a very big thank you to all who helped make the final figure of £2,000 such a worthy donation to charity, in the memory of a great guy, Malcolm Kearney.
