Come and join us for a boogie

In an effort to put Hatfield on the map, some regulars at Hatfield decided they wanted to have a bit of an identity when they travel away to other events. Black and gold polo shirts were designed and the “Hatfield Houndogs” was born. So if you enjoy dancing at Hatfield then there is a whole wealth of dancing opportunities out there for you to try, including other weekly Ceroc classes and freestyle events. Why not join us – the more the merrier!

So what kind of events are we talking about?

Well, one of them is the “Party Weekender”, held at Warmwell near Weymouth, in April and November and for the first time this year in Wales in September. The event is a long weekend with the emphasis being on the “Party”! You can try a wide range of dance styles in 8 fun classes; everybody’s favourite being a “Dirty Dancing” workshop. The weekend boasts 7 live bands, & with two dance floors there is ample space for everybody. The great weekend brings together dancers from all organisations, mingling together and having fun in a very relaxed atmosphere. On the party theme there is also a talent contest and the very popular fancy dress competition.

Another popular event is held in May and November at the Pontins camp in Camber Sands. This event caters for 1,400 people and the demand for places is high. There are classes every hour during the day and these are run in two large separate halls. Teaching includes advanced jive, blues and Charleston with Nigel and Nina, and the lindy hop with Andy and Rena. At the last weekend both sets of teachers entertained the crowds with a Cabaret session. Heather McCrudden joined them with her group performing “I’m the King of the Swingers” from The Jungle Book. The evenings include freestyle dancing to some great DJs, interspersed with fun dances such as The Madison, The Stroll, the Shim Sham, the Guaglioni and the shag. As well as the main dancing within the halls, you will also find, if the weather is kind, impromptu dances, open air parties and barbecues going on around the chalets, as people mingle and enjoy themselves

Whether it is an afternoon tea dance, an evening event, the Ceroc Championships, a weekend away or even a Ceroc holiday in the sun, the “Hatfield Houndogs” want to encourage you to put on your dancing shoes, meet new people and GO FOR IT! And if you feel very talented and would like to do a write up of any of them, then send them in and we’ll include them in future editions of “Robin’s Nest”..

Visit the web site

For those of you that are not aware, we probably have one of the best web sites going on the dance circuit. Designed and maintained by Mark Ely (who has just been co-opted as one of our taxi dancers) it has all the information you need to know about the venue. You’ll find listings of all the events that are happening, including tea dances & Cerocshops, back issues of Robin‘s Nest, crew windups, plus all the photos from these events, busking & the crew socials. Also included are links to other dance sites and there’s a “contact us” section where you can e-mail your comments to us. And If you have visited before, take a fresh look, as the site has just recently been revamped. The web site can be located at www.ceroc-hatfield.freeserve.co.uk.
